Huh?

Outfoxing viewers by hushing up a sex spat (HamptonRoads.com/Pilot Online)

Ain't our legal system wonderful? I like this guy's comments on the O'Reilly fiasco and legal settlement. Essentially he says:

But when the settlement was announced Friday, here’s what O’Reilly’s lawyer said in a prepared statement: “All cases and claims have been withdrawn, and all parties have agreed that there was no wrongdoing whatsoever by Mr. O’Reilly, Ms. Mackris, or Ms. Mackris’ counsel. ”

No wrongdoing whatsoever? What happened to these public accusations of extortion, which is a felony, and sexual harassment, which is emotional battery?

No wrongdoing whatsoever? Either somebody got blackmailed or emotionally abused, or they lied about it in court documents. If they want to settle, fine, but the explanation that there was “no wrongdoing whatsoever” is a fraud.

It doesn't really bother me that Oreilly apparently can't control his sexual urges - that is, this doesn't make me hate him or even feel any animosity towards him. People are what they are and I'm not at all sure they can control these urges any more than a gay or straight person controls their sexual preference. This kind of stuff was installed at the factory - it's in their genes.

That doesn't mean I approve of it and it certainly doesn't mean I think it should be ignored. I'm just not at all sure that such people can control themselves, so I think society needs to be able to protect itself from being abused by these people and the best protection is knowledge of who they are and how their behavior may be threatening.

So:

a. I believe the world has a right to know about this stuff so they can protect themselves from being abused by such people - Clinton or O'Reilly.

b. Hypocrits really do bug me and on that score, O'Reilly has Clinton beat. I'd be much more impressed if he simply was honest about the urges he apparently can't control, or honest about the blackmail he allowed himself to be subject to. Of course, we'll never know for sure where the truth lies because the phony who bragged he was not going to give into blackmail either caved to blackmail, or decided to cut his losses. Either way, he's certainly no hero, though I suspect his fans will continue to think otherwise.
