Well that beat hell out of watchiing the Red Sox

I did watch the first inning. That was depressing. Then I picked up the debate. Kerry was superb. Bush was better than he has been in the other two. He didn't lose his cool - but he did lose his mind a few times, with odd little responses. And he was no match for Kerry - not because Kerry is more articulate - he is - but because Kerry has better command of the facts and the facts are on his side.

It will be interesting to see if others saw it the same way.

It seems to me this was the most solid of the debates - there was less posturing, less fluff, more red meat.

The bottom line: I wish a campaign lasted just six weeks - by law. (England has some such limit, I believe.) I wish that each candidate would be required to participate in five debates before they were allowed to go out and make a stump speech. And I wish there was no advertising allowed.

These three debates were not only the best I have seen in any presidential contest in my lifetime, but they also restored my confidence in the system. In the end, both candidates came across as sincere adults wrestling with real problems who simply have very different wprld views. I relate to Kerry's view. But I find it interesting that they are so disimilar because both are children of priviledge - both had/have prominent fathers and both went to Yale. But then they split and in the end you see two very different people.

Oh yeah - The Red Sox. Well, with the debate over I checked in. It's 3-0 in favor of the Yankess. Certainly the Red Sox may pull this one out. But I really can't get excited about these guys. To me, even if they win the World Series, they are still a bunch of over paid, under performers. As a team, I like the Patriots much better - and in baeball, I like the teams with the small budgets that have performed well beyond their payrolls - teams like Minnesota.
