Snap wins for Kerry
CNN.com - Poll: Bush, Kerry even in 2nd debate - Oct 9, 2004
Three "snap" polls give Kerry edge in debate. That's a "win" in my book in a race this tight.
The ABC-TV snap poll had it 44-41 Kerry.
A Democracy Corps survey indicated that 45 percent of the respondents said they felt the Democratic challenger had won the debate, compared with 32 percent who gave the nod to the incumbent. (Now that's not even close.
CNN defines their snap poll as a statistical draw. Technically it is because Kerry only won by 47-45. BUT they polled sigtnificantly more Repuyblicans than Dems, so I call that a Kerry victory as well. Here's how CNN put it - note the last paragraph:
A CNN/USA Today/Gallup snap poll taken immediately after the presidential debate Friday night found that respondents gave a slight, statistically insignificant edge to Sen. John Kerry over President Bush, 47 percent to 45 percent. The respondents included 515 registered voters who watched the debate. Their political affiliations broke down as 38 percent Republican, 32 percent Democratic and 30 percent independent.
Bottom line - the Kerry team has to come out swinging today and tomorrow, pursuing some of the president's more stupid points and showing how angry he got. I think he really lost it at a couple of places - more so than in the first debate, though apparently others didn't see it quite that way.
Significantly fewer people watched this debate - the Yankees were playing Minnesota at the time in a play-off game. The third one is the key - it returns to the style of the first.
Oh, and speaking of the first, what the hell is that bulge in the Bush jacket? It certainly would be fantastic if it turns out he's being fed lines by radio, though I don't really believe these guys are that stupid. Still, check out this NYT article on the subject.
