Bremer Criticizes Troop Levels (washingtonpost.com)

This Washington Post article makes it sound ;like Bremer has at last come to his senses. When he was running iraq they should have had more troops. Right. But he says they have enough troops now.

Ok - so when the insurgency was smaller they should have had more troops, but now that it's out of hand they have enough? I think this kinda of silliness tells us more about the quality of Bremer's leadership than anything else.

What no one - including Kerry - seems to get is that we will never have enough troops in Iraq. When you are fighting a guerilla war and the population is against you, you control only the the couple of square feet of earth that a soldier stands on - and there aren't enough soldier sin the world to cover all the ground in Iraq.

Our only real hope there is the elections. We have to win the hearts and minds of people and if somehow we can run a fair election AND it is perceived by the Iraqis as fair, then we have a chance. Of course, such a fair election is likely to put into power someone who is as much our enemy as Saddam Hussein, but , , ,
