"Fast and loose" with truth in Sydney and beyond
Dom shares these thoughts from Austrailia where the politics - driven by the war in Iraq - are heating up. I love what the Sydney paper has to say about Howard - and, of course, it's just what we can say about Bush.
Our general elections have been called for October 9. For the next few weeks the media will be choked with singing, shouting and slanging.
America. Yesterday's news showed a huge vocal+visual anti-Bush demo outside the Republican convention. There was a giant papier-mache Bush with a tape of LIES coming out of his mouth. It parallels what is happening here about John Howard. The Sydney Morning Herald says:
"The plain truth is that we can no longer trust the Prime Minister to tell the plain truth... John Howard will play fast and loose with the truth whenever it suits him. He will burrow beneath it, trudge around it, clamber over the top of it, smother it in sophistry, point blank deny it and leap frantically aside as truth returns to bite him on the backside..."
As Pontius Pilate said: "What is truth?"
