"Oooops!" just doesn't seem adequate
BBC NEWS | UK | Politics | 'Serious flaws' in Iraq intelligence
From the BBC:
Key intelligence used to justify war with Iraq has now been shown to be unreliable, the Butler Report says.
The 196 page report says MI6 did not check its sources well enough, and sometimes relied on third hand reports.
What do you say when you invade a country by mistake? Kill 10,000 innocent civilians by mistake? Kill tens of thousands - no one kept score - innocent soldiers by mistake? Destroyed uncounted buildings by mistake? "Oooops" just doesn't seem adequate.
Oh yes, we got rid of a nasty dictator. But if you happen to be among those tens of thousand Iraqi who lost loved ones to this action, wouldn't you see that a bit like someone performing cancer surgery with a hand grenade? I mean one well-placed bullet could have done that job. If we didn't think Saddam Hussein deserved that well-placed bullet, then we certainly had no business killing all those other innocent people.
Oh, and did I mention we lost about 1,000 "coalition" soldiers in the process as well?
Sorry folks. Next time we'll do our homework. Next time our president will read the reports instead of making life and death decisions on the basis of his ignorant guts. And next time his little lap dog may stay home and stick to applying his brains to his own problems rather than bailing out this ignorant cowboy. Can you even begin to imagine how angry we would be if we were devastated by an unprovoked attack and then learned it was alla mistake? Bet you can.
