In dubious battle
Saddam Could Call CIA in His Defense
One of Dubya's favorite things to say is that Saddam Hussein "gassed his own people." Hussein ha always denied that he did this and our own intelligence reports fromt hat ear point the finger at Iran. This was covered in an NYT Op Ed piece before the war - and once again, we are using dubious evidence. Saddam is an SOB. he has a lot to answer for in terms of human rights abuse and political torture and mass murder. But it is very unlikely that he gased the Kurds and its puzzling why we keep repeating what is likely, in court, to prove a major embarrassment. Of course, this is also thesilly part of the WMD argument. Calling gas - which has been used with relatively little success for about a century - a WMD is a real stretch and belittles the threat from real WMD, such as nukes.
