Bob Woodward's Books
This Sunday Globe piece by David Greenberg, historian and former Woodward assistant, has given me pause. Perhaps I have been too critical of recent writing. The sub-title summarizes the theme of the essay: "Bob Woodward'sbooks are long on raw facts and short on argument. And that's exactly why we need them." Maybe his work is not so hagiographic as it has appeared to me to be. I was dismayed by the generally glowing light in which he cast Dubya in Bush at War. But I am intrigued that in reassessing what he described is leading liberal pundits to alter their similarly critical judgement of the book. It will be interesting to see whether the White House's endorsement of Plan of Attack on its website plays out as a plus or minus in the election.
Have a look and see what you think. (I picked up Plan of Attack at BJ's for $15.59 -- not the $28.00 list.);-)
