THE reason the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad were bombed is because the UN has been taken over by the US and turned into a "dark joke" and a "malignant force", according to one of the UN's most internationally respected former leaders.

In my opinion the UN sanctions were worse than a failure - they were a crime against humanity. We were, at best, using the Iraqi people as pawns to bring down Hussein. We kept telling the people to "blame it on Hussein," but who wnats to listen to the finer points of a debate when your children are dying and you know the primary cause is the UN sanctions?
