OK, so now I know

OK, so now I know I'm mild mannered

Chew on this sound bite:
Whatever you think about Tony Blair, he is still OUR Prime Minister, and he should listen to us - not the smirking, cross-eyed fool in the White House.

That's typical of the way some of the British journalists (I stress some) approach Blair and Bush. To read the whole thing, go here. This, of course, is British tabloid journalism. There's a certain entertainment value to it. If you hate George Bush this is a huge serving of junk food to feed that hate. But it is also an indicator of the emotions Bush inspires in some abroad. Actually, I thought you had to travel to the Middle East to hear this level of vitriol about Bush and America. England, remember, is our staunchest ally.

It's not that I disagree with the point of view. Beneath the venom is an element of outraged truth. Bush loves to act on his "gut" feelings and this is a good example of a "gut" reaction to Bush. And what's wrong with gut reactions? Well, there's no substance here. No new facts, no new insights that help us understand and deal with the situation. I don't think this kind of journalism promotes anything other than heat. But then, this "gut" reaction is only a piece of light reading appealing to the already converted. The president runs the world through his "gut' reactions. Posted by Greg Stone at March 27, 2003 02:36 AM
