Remembering Hurricane Carol:

Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:

Send me email, Greg Stone

Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory.

Or send a single email to us both at once.

Brooklyn, NY

When I think of hurricanes, I remember Carol vividly. It was an early
childhood experience as I was only 5 1/2 in August 1954. I was sitting by
our second floor brownstone window on Brooklyn Avenue in lower Crown
Heights (now known as Lefferts Gardens) in Bklyn, NY.

I saw a tree being blown past my house on the other side of the street.
My mother was yelling and grabbed me away. I was frozen in place by the
awesome sight!

My little sister Carol was only 2 yrs old at the time. I started calling
her our little hurricane after that day!

Even today, as a graying Boomer, I feel the same wonedrous thrill around
hurricane season on Long Island. Living through Gloria in '85 was nothing
to compare to it!
