Newport, RIHi - I grew up in Newport and was 9 in 1954 - I remember Carol somewhat although it seems to me that there were other hurricanes that "hit" Newport around that time give or take a couple of years. Our home was a small Cape in the "5th Ward" situated very close to Rogers High - I can remember the force of the wind pushing the rain up & over the window sills into the living room - as Carol was winding down my mother let me go outside - I can remember as if it were yesterday walking near the auditorium at Rogers - the ground was very wet and the wind knocked me off my feet and blew me what seems like 20-30 feet along the ground.
