Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a
commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:
Send me email, Greg Stone Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory. Or send a single email to us both at once.

Barrington, RII was 5 years old, in Barrington, when Carol struck. We lived on Bay Road, halfway between Gov. Bradford and Highland, and the water had come up from the beach about to Chachapacassett Rd. In our yard, we had an arched trellis providing the access between the back to front yards, and I remember the wind had blown it over, so for a little girl, I had to climb over it to get to the front yard. Our house was plastered with debris - salt spray, and shards of maple leaves, mostly, and for days it seemed my parents were hosing it off with the garden hose ( no pressure wash in those days, I guess.) At the beach, the little house used at the entrance had blown or washed away, as had all the benches ( in those days ) in front of where the cars park. My dad lugged home some of the lumber that had washed halfway up the street and built us a picnic table for the back yard. I wish I had pictures of the beach area from then - it would have been quite a disaster area. Phyllis (Securo) Thibault, now in Stowe, VT |
