Remembering Hurricane Carol:
Your views
Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:

Send me email, Greg Stone

Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory.

Or send a single email to us both at once.

Hi Greg:

Jeff Howe here. Enjoyed the Pro/jo article today and went to your site for a look. It really hit a memory cell for Judy and I. (Judy Berlin, remember her?) we've been married 44 years now.

We all are the same ages so many of your stories were lived by us too. I lived on Mark Wood Drive next to Peck School facing the cove and we had 20" of river in the house. I spent much of the time helping my father save trees in the yard. Judy lived on Appian Way right across from the bay and was scared out of their wits with the water which came up incrediblly fast.

I was in Boy Scouts troop two at your dad's church along with Bruce Richmond, Tommy Parker, Spike Dahl, Jon Rhode, and many more. Incidently Jon has been in Africa for many years. Judy and I ran into him at Childrens Hosp. in Boston.

My dad has some 54 and 38 hurricane pics I'll try to post them, some from 38 are from the Barrington Bridge. My brother Bob was also working for the town summers then and he worked his butt off for weeks after cleaning up. Betty was my camp counciler at Juniper trail LONG LONG AGO!
