Remembering Hurricane Carol:
Your views
Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:

Send me email, Greg Stone

Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory.

Or send a single email to us both at once.

Your picture of the boys in the boat in Barrington 50 years ago caught my attention. My mother's sister, daughter Marion's son was Dick Larrabee. Marion died in 1985 and Dick moved to Texas and we have lost track of him. My mother sent pictures of Marion and Dick, plus other family pictures which she thought he would like. But, they were returned with no forwarding address. Can you help.

(Editor's note: If you can, please send information to me at gstone@umassd.edu Thanks!)

PS: I worked on the Acoaxet Golf Club in Westport Harbor during the hurricane. I watched houses from the courseway drift across the pond near the Elephant Rock Beach Club and onto the greens and fairways of the club. The bus going to Fall River was swept into the pond with two passengers aboard. The bus driver, Jimmy was dazed and walking from the.pond when I saw him. I did not know until later that one of the passengers was my twin brother and a girl he worked with at the harbor inn. They both survived.
