Remembering Hurricane Carol:
Your views
Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:

Send me email, Greg Stone

Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory.

Or send a single email to us both at once.

Providence, RI

Fifty years ago....I was three months old during Hurricane Carol. My parents lived on Gordon Street in Providence and I reportedly slept through the entire event. My mother forever claimed that my ability for deep sleep was developed during that storm!

My dad, Al Brennan, worked at Blue Cross, RI at the time as one of the original salesmen. As I recall, the offices back then were on South Main Street. I recall him remembering how the waters rose so quickly; I have no recollection of how he would have made it home. Sadly, both he and my mother passed away many years ago, but I would love to know if he got stuck in the office or made it home to his family.
