Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a
commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:
Send me email, Greg Stone Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory. Or send a single email to us both at once.

Galilee, RIThank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane. I was 9 years old, living at our summer home on Starfish Drive on Great Island (Little Island just north of Galilee now overcrowded). We were waterfront facing North at the south end of Salt Pond. We watched seven houses float by our dock and numerous skiffs, pleasure boats and even two commercial fishing boats which ended up beached in a little cove behind Potato Island.
Check a chart and you'll find all this. I even have 8 mm films which I will certainly drag out now! My sister's Amesbury style sailboat was lost but our other boats were secured by dragging them up the enbankment (45' high) with the car and leaving then beside the house where my father determined they would be in the lee as much as possible. I too did stupid things after the hurricane. Mostly on the Pond. I now live in Barrington, am a long time member of the Barrington Yacht Club and know many of the families you reference. The yacht club has an historian who is in possession of many more pics if you're interested. Her name is Jean MacIntyre and you can reach her via the Yacht Club. By the way, on the subject of the RR bridge, I vote for the water ebbing as the wash around the pilings appears to be on the south side of the pilings. Lastly I found only two typo's :) Great Job and very appreciated. Thank you again. |
