Remembering Hurricane Carol:
Your views
Your view?
Did you witness Hurricane Carol in 1954? Tell me about it! And if you have a picture you're willing to share, that's all the better. I'd love to hear from you and I'll add what you have to say to our "Your View" pages. What's more, Charles Orloff is doing a commemorative book on Carol for Blue Hill Observatory and would love to hear from you as well. So if you have something to share, please:

Send me email, Greg Stone

Or send email to Charles Orloff at Blue Hill Observatory.

Or send a single email to us both at once.

I remember "Carol". My grandparents were going to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. People from Canada were supposed to come. Needless to day they didn't.

My grandparents lived on a long fairly steep hill called "Scotland Hill". About one third of the way up the hill the land leveled off, and that's where they lived. The water came down that hill like a river. After it was over the hill just below my grandparents' home was all dug out. The road was erroded to the point there were ruts as deep as I am tall (which is not very tall - 4' 11"), but still quite deep.

Of course there was loss of electricity and trees down, but I remember those ruts - can still see them today in my mind.
