Stony Brook in April
Stony Brook Wilidlife Sanctuary is a wonderful, family-oriented center with wide, easy trails and an excellent variety of habitats for birds and other creatures. It's about an hours drive from here and I've been there several times over the past decade. Don and I were there a couple days ago and were immediately struck by the abundance of activity. I have been on several bird walks lately - in sanctuaries and outside of them - where all is painfully quiet and still. Not so with Stony Brook. Everywhere we turned there was something going on - a red squirrel flash ing across the path, Canada geese everywhere - a hawk high overhead and a wide variety of waterfowl and songbirds. The album captures some of what we saw, including the high light, a new duck for us. I've emailed the sanctuary to see if this is a common visitor, or something really unusual, but haven't received a reply yet. Maybe you know him? You can check by going to the last photo in the album. As before, I've created a small version of the album for those with low resolution screens or slow connections. For others recommend the larger version. Posted by Greg Stone at April 8, 2004 08:14 PM |
