Let's go fishing!Ok, we have two pictures again. I think the first one is fairly easy, but the second? I'm not positive. Pretty sure, but . . .I'll wait to see what others say. Wait - now as I study it I'm not even sure how many people are in it!
Stumped? Here's a hint. Just put your cursor on the word "hint" below and a clue should appear. Be patient. Hint!
And how many people are in this picture? Three? Or is there a fourth in the lower, left corner? Look in the triangle formed by the wood. Who's that? In the original Bren thought it was a cat. Blown up on the screen it looks like a person to me. But are they standing in the water? Or is the fishing a pretense for the photographer? Posted by Greg Stone at August 1, 2003 09:22 AMComments
The first picture is of the four of us with "Big Grandmother" - Dad's mother at that time Mrs Riggs, I believe. I felt it must be Easter, but I don't understand Greg's dress vs the rest. It was not the Easter Greg went to "jail" that was a few years later. 1946 was our second year in RI. Picture taken on front lawn of 95 Mathewson Rd Second picture is of Don & Betty fishing at end of Chapin Rd intersection with Mathewson Rd in Barrington. OurMathewson Rd home is just over Don's head. This is a picture that Greg in later life painted as I recall. I don't think there is a fourth person, and don't really know who took the picture or who is the third person. I was very thin, but I don't believe it is me.
I can only comment on the second picture as the first one baffles me...who are those people and why are they so glum looking?! The second picture appears to be Tom (or Don) fishing with Betty. I would guess the third impish looking person is my Dad and it looks like he would either like to spoil the picture or push the other two off the wall?! Not that little brothers ever have such thoughts. The fourth person could easily be a tabby cat accept that it would have to be hovering in thin air so I will opt for an older man standing in the water fishing. He is probably having more success than the two sitting on the wall. I believe the picture was taken in Barrington on Mathewson Rd. I remember the wall well, Margaret and I used to walk on it with our Grandfather Hirst. Posted by: Sarah Stubbs at August 1, 2003 08:17 PMFor the record, I never went to jail on Easter. All my jail time was done on Thanksgiving - or at least that's my memory ;-) But in this picture I'm five years old, so maybe I didn't have to go to church and the rest of you did? Of course, if was Easter they waited quite a while to get the film developed - but that's certainly possible. I don't think we went through film as fast in those days as we did later. So that's Don and Betty in the second picture? I thought it was Tom and Betty? I have a similar, black and white version I'll dig out that I always thought was taken by Uncle Jess. Was Uncle Jess possibly up here with big grandmother? Whose the kid on the bike? Sarah seems to think it's me. I guess that's possible. But at five years old I'm not sure I could ride a bike like that up Mathewson Road? Posted by: Greg Stone at August 1, 2003 08:38 PMPost a comment
