One of my favorite childhood memories is from wandering through Nayatt Woods in Barrington, RI, one cold winter day when every stream, puddle, and pond was covered with ice. I was with friends and we were able to travel for miles, it seemed, without taking our skates off. It became a real challenge to skip about on narrow streams and the discovery of little ponds where we could stretch our legs for a few feet was especially neat. This little roadside pond - with the morning light stream through the trees, brought back to me that memory. Wish I had some skates. Hell, wish I dared put them on if I had them ;-)
